2022 Orientation of School of Future Design

On the evening of September 3, the opening ceremony of the 2022 postgraduate students of the School of Future Design of Beijing Normal University was held at the Art Gallery of Yuanbai Building. Wang Shoujun, Standing Committee Member of the University Council and Vice President of Beijing Normal University, Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhuhai Campus, Gao Peng, Dean of the School of Future Design, Ning Shaolin, Party Secretary of the School of Future Design, as well as faculty and new students attended the opening ceremony.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Wang Shoujun delivered a speech. He said, “Beijing Normal University has a very good foundation to run a design school, where there is an excellent cluster of Chinese cultural heritage disciplines. Establishing the School of Future Design on the basis of cross-discipline is the hope that it will be different from the traditional construction of design schools and will recruit more potential students in a new way and cultivate them to become good designers. We hope that students will look farther ahead, stand higher, and embrace a more open-minded philosophy, fully reflecting the inclusiveness and intersectionality of design disciplines. I wish the students and the school to face the future and design the future together, together to the future.”

Gao Peng welcomed the postgraduate students of the Year 2022 on behalf of the school. He said that the School of Future Design is a design school established in the midst of the COVID 19 epidemic, at a different time than other design schools, and with different goals and expectations for the cultivation of students. We are facing and experiencing a new global epidemic that will transform the way we travel, the way we think, and the way we understand art, culture, and technology. For this reason, the School of Future Design is named “Future”. We hope that from the first day of enrollment, each student will begin to think about what the future of life and production will be after their graduation, ten years from now, twenty years from now; what the future of art and technology will be; and what direction design education will take in the future.

Wu Yurun, the representative of full-time postgraduate students of 2022, said, “As a school with global vision and innovative ideas, the School of Future Design is equal, independent, open and inclusive. We hope that we can truly become international composite talents in the future with a sense of social responsibility, a sense of mission of the times, scientific and humanistic concepts, diversified knowledge background, precise professionalism, cross-border cooperation ability, future vision and innovative spirit, and truly face the future and lead the future.”

Yu Yiyi, the representative of part-time postgraduate students of 2022, said, “As an ordinary teacher of Li Xiang School in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, the name of Beijing Normal University has been ringing in my ears since I became a teacher. As a new member of Beijing Normal University, we will work hard to live up to the country and the times.”

He Tianjiao, the faculty representative, said, “In the future, designers will face a more complex world than ever before, and in addition to being able to solve problems creatively, they will also need to meet technological challenges and find opportunities in them. I look forward to colliding with students in future classes with new sparks of thinking.”

Ning Shaolin expressed his earnest expectation to the students. He believed that students are at a very creative age and need to cherish the precious opportunities to learn systematically on campus. The School of Future Design was established to excel in the circle and exist for a better material life of people. I hope you will learn to cross boundaries in the learning process, and focus on the integration of art, technology, education and humanities.

At the end of the ceremony, the university song of Beijing Normal University was played, and students wore school badges to each other and applauded and congratulated themselves for being a member of Beijing Normal University.

After the ceremony, the orientation party, which was organized by the new students themselves, started immediately. At the orientation party, teachers and students freely communicated, interacted and participated in games together, and spent a wonderful evening together.

Since the orientation day on August 31, the new students of 2022 have participated in a variety of campus activities, such as the school opening ceremony, the school orientation party, a series of special presentations, the opening class meeting, the Dean’s first class, etc., to lay a solid foundation for the upcoming design learning journey.
