China National Arts and Crafts Society Research Group Visits Beijing Normal University School of Future Design

On November 19th, the research group of the China National Arts and Crafts Society visited the Beijing Normal University School of Future Design to carry out research around the theme of jointly building an "Inheritance and Innovation Design Laboratory". At the invitation of the society, Zhao Shaohua, former Deputy Secretary and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, participated in the research and provided guidance. Cai Daying, Party Secretary and Chairman of the China National Arts and Crafts Society, and Gao Peng, Director of the China National Arts and Crafts Society and Dean of the Beijing Normal University School of Future Design, accompanied the research.

The research group visited our art museum, which is currently exhibiting the Design Education Achievement Exhibition, and our laboratories. They affirmed the impressive achievements of our school since its establishment and believed that rooted in the intersection of art, technology, and education, the school upholds cutting-edge teaching concepts of design and future production, art and technology, and carries out research and cross-disciplinary cooperation in humanities, art, design, technology, social sciences, and other fields. It is an important practitioner of future design education.

During the research discussion, Zhao Shaohua affirmed the idea proposed by the China National Arts and Crafts Society to jointly build the "Inheritance and Innovation Design Laboratory". The institution aims to promote the concept of "Inheritance and Innovation Design" in practice, leading the development of the arts and crafts industry. She pointed out that the development of arts and crafts is necessary for inheriting and promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture, promoting creative transformation and innovative development. We need to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party, adhere to the correct and innovative approach, deeply explore its intrinsic value, promote the high-quality development of the handicraft industry, continuously stimulate the vitality of excellent traditional Chinese culture, build a profound cultural foundation for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and provide a powerful spiritual force.

Chairman Cai Daying and Dean Gao Peng had a deep discussion around the research theme. They believe that traditional Chinese crafts are long-standing treasures of Chinese civilization, containing rich history, culture, and wisdom. Traditional crafts need to empower contemporary life, focus on meeting the needs of the times from an industrial perspective, explore the path to make arts and crafts products necessary for life, and lead the high-quality development of the industry. The two sides will strengthen cooperation based on their respective advantages and create a high-level cooperation base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area - the traditional handicraft innovation design laboratory. The aim is to revitalize traditional crafts, integrate design and cultural elements, Chinese and Western exchange elements, and in the international context, let "contemporary hand-made, world performance" show through the re-creation, innovation, and redesign of traditional handicrafts, demonstrating the expressive power of contemporary cultural heritage and art, achieving cross-border integration, serving contemporary life needs, and serving the national development strategy and local economic and social development.

Accompanying the research were Gao Jian, Chairman of the Beijing Normal University School of Future Design Development Council and Special Director of the Traditional Art Design Innovation Center, Liang Xu, Assistant Dean of the Beijing Normal University School of Future Design and Director of Training and Cooperative Development Projects, Li Congrong, Director of the Center for Youth Design Thinking Innovation Development, and the initiator of the "Belt and Road" Youth Designer Exchange Project.
