Inauguration Ceremony of the Museum of Chinese Basic Education Art Textbooks Held at Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai

On June 29th, the inauguration ceremony for the construction of the Museum of Chinese Basic Education Art Textbooks was held at Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai.

At the inauguration ceremony, Wang Shoujun, Member of the University Council, Executive Vice President, Beijing Normal University as well as the Director of the Administrative Committee, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, delivered a speech. He stated that the commencement of the construction of the Museum of Chinese basic Education Art Textbooks represents a distillation and summary of the history of Chinese basic art education. It will serve as a place for the collection, protection, and research of foundational art education documents, providing a crucial reference for the theory and practice of aesthetic education in the new era of China. He expressed the hope that through continuous construction and improvement, this museum will become a secondary classroom for cultivating students' aesthetic education, permeating the campus with aesthetic education, and creating an environment where aesthetic education is present at all times, in all places, and for everyone.

Professor Li Hongbo, a donor of the Museum of Chinese Basic Education Art Textbooks' collection, provided a comprehensive introduction to the museum's art textbook documentation. He pointed out that the museum's collection includes textbooks, supplementary materials, teachers' books, student assignments, manuscript drafts of textbooks, historical distribution materials, teaching standards, curriculum, timetables, posters, wall charts, slides, various projections, and teaching aids, totalling 4,500 items/sets. This collection systematically showcases the development of Chinese basic art education over more than 120 years.

The museum's exhibits are organized around key milestones in educational reform, with items spanning from the 30th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty (1904) to the present. Under the advancement of the SFD, the museum is planned to be completed by the end of this year. In addition to exhibitions and research, the museum will organize a series of public welfare activities and educational programs, inviting primary and secondary schools and art educators from across the country to visit and learn. Furthermore, to enhance the quality and level of basic art education, the museum plans to establish long-term partnerships with internationally renowned art institutions to conduct academic exchanges and collaborative research. By introducing advanced international concepts and practical experiences in aesthetic education, the museum aims to further promote the reform and innovation of Chinese basic education art textbooks.

Museum of Chinese Basic Education Art Textbooks Collection - Elementary School Drawing Textbook (1958 Edition)

Gao Peng, Dean of the SFD, stated that the SFD created by Beijing Normal University is a design school based on a completely new concept. The entire teaching space resembles a design museum where faculty and students can explore and learn everywhere. The SFD enhances the campus cultural environment by constructing a cluster of innovative design buildings and promotes aesthetic education on campus through subtle influences and multidimensional art experience activities. Through practical actions and outstanding achievements, the SFD aims to serve the local economic and social development.

On the day of the event, an unveiling ceremony was also held for the special classrooms in Yuanbai Building at Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai. Spearheaded by the provost’s office and  academic affairs and the SFD, the VR/AR studio, virtual production studio, print studio, and image studio were successfully completed and will be open for use by all faculty and students on campus.
