SFD academic live broadcast shows the charm of global design

The 2023 Milan Design Week and the Milan International Furniture Exhibition (Salone del Mobile. Milano) kicked off in Milan, Italy, from 18th April to 23rd April. As strategic partners, School of Future design, Beijing Normal University and School of POLI. Design, Polytechnic University of Milan supported the official live broadcast, providing the full picture of 2023 Milan Exhibition with unique industry insights and inspiration to the public .

2023 Milan International Furniture Exhibition & Milan Design Week live broadcast is jointly authorized by Milan International Furniture Exhibition x Milan Design Week x ADI Design Museum, and produced by School of POLI.design, Dedou and Vision Dedou POLI. This live broadcast is supported by Beijing International Design Week and School of Future Design as strategic partners.

The live broadcast invited Maria Porro, the President of Milan International Furniture Exhibition, Matteo Ingaramo, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of School of POLI.design, Luciano Galimberti, the Director of ADI Design Museum and the President of Italian Industrial Design Association, Luca Fois, the founder of Tortona Design District in Milan, Cristian Confalonieri, the founder of Brera Design District in Milan and many other distinguished guests. They gave comprehensive interpretations to Milan Design Week.

At the live broadcast of ADI Design Museum, Gao Peng, the Dean of School of Future design, together with the research team of this school, had a face-to-face conversation with Luciano Galimberti. They had deep communication on the history of Milan Design Week, the development of Italian industrial design and the developing directions of Chinese designers. They also discussed the influence and possibility of design to the future production and life style. Besides, during the live broadcast, Luciano Galimberti explained the past winners of the Golden Compass Awards in detail.

Keep closer to the world through the Milan research journey

School of Future Design and School of POLI.design reached a strategic partnership in November 2021. Based on the principle of mutual benefits, promotion and development, the two schools carried out courses and scientific research cooperation in furniture design and other professional fields at various perspectives.

In this research journey, the faculty and students form School of Future Design were invited to School of POLI. Design for communication and study. Gao Peng and Matteo Ingaramo, discussed and planned future talents cultivation, curriculum sharing, joint research and project cooperation between these two schools. Prof. Arturo Dell 'Acqua Bellavitis, the former Dean of the School of POLI. Design and Director of the Triennale Design Museum, Milan, Italy and Prof. Masiimilano, from School of POLI.design, introduced the history of design in Italy and the construction history of the lab in School of POLI.design, and they had discussions on "the design origin in China and Italy" with students.

This research team are composed of business leaders and senior designers from culture& art industry, home design industry and medical device industry. Through class learning, exhibitions visiting, and communication with famous teachers, the students had a deeper understanding of the history and future development of design. They all expressed that this research would have great influences and new inspiration to their career, and they hope to have more opportunities for international communication and learning abroad in future.

School of Future Design, BNU attaches great importance to international communication, advocates the global design education concept "Business School of Design", and carries out various forms of practical courses cooperation with many world top-class universities and enterprises. This research journey to Milan aims to not only build a platform for cultural communication, mutual understanding, but also provide opportunities for faculty and students to understand cultural diversity and broaden international perspectives.
