SFD Established the Center of Traditional Craft Design & Innovation

On June 16th 2013, the establishment ceremony of the Center of Traditional Craft Design & Innovation form School of Future Design (SFD) in Beijing Normal University (BNU) was held in the SFD Art Museum. Zhao Shaohua, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture; Wang Shoujun, Vice President of BNU and Director of Zhuhai Campus Management Committee; Wei Wei, Deputy Party Secretary of BNU and Secretary of Zhuhai Campus Party Committee; Gao Jian,board member of Renmin University of China, a sponsor of Tsinghua University, the chairman of Shengtang International Culture Communication Co., LTD.; Ning Shaolin, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Zhuhai Campus of BNU and secretary of the Party Branch of SFD; Meng Chaoying, Director of Human Resources of Zhuhai Campus of BNU; Gao Peng, dean of SFD and the faculty attended the ceremony.

At the establishment ceremony, Dean Gao Peng delivered a speech. He said that culture needs to be inherited and more importantly, it needs to be innovated. On the second anniversary of the establishment of SFD, the "Center of Traditional Craft Design & Innovation" was established, aiming to inherit and carry forward the essence of Chinese cultural craft, to redesign it with a future-oriented perspective, and show the world the continuous vitality of Chinese traditional craft and the vigorous force of new design.

In order to promote the development of SFD better and more efficiently,SFD established the School Development Council. At the ceremony, Vice President Wang Shoujun awarded the honorary president appointment letter of SFD Development Council to Zhao Shaohua and Secretary Wei Wei awarded the letter of appointment of SFD Development Council to Gao Jian.

Subsequently, Dean Gao Peng and Chairman Gao Jian unveiled the "Center of Traditional Craft Design & Innovation" under the witness of Honorary Chairman Zhao Shaohua, Vice President Wang Shoujun, Secretary Wei Wei and Secretary Ning Shaolin. Dean Gao Peng awarded the appointment letter of Special Director of the Center to Chairman Gao Jian.

The Traditional Craft Design Innovation Center of SFD in Beijing Normal University, based on cultural inheritance and combined with superior resources inside and outside the university, is committed to building an innovative design research system of excellent traditional craft, constructing a professional open scientific research platform, and serving the national development strategy and local economic & social development.. With the purpose of revitalizing traditional crafts, the Center actively plays a collaboratively innovative role in the fields of traditional crafts upgrading, standard research, exhibition, cultural & creative research and development, and helps promote and re-innovate traditional Chinese crafts.

Honorary Chairman Zhao Shaohua, Chairman Gao Jian, Vice President Wang Shoujun and Secretary Wei Wei, accompanied by Dean Gao Peng and Secretary Ning Shaolin, visited the achievements exhibition and laboratory of SFD for the last two years. Dean Gao Peng introduced to the guests the general situation of SFD, the process of building SFD and important teaching achievements. Honorary Chairman Zhao Shaohua highly appreciated the achievements in the past two years. She said that it is expected that in the future, SFD can give full play to its professional advantages to design traditional Chinese crafts innovatively, to tell Chinese stories well with design language, and to help traditional Chinese crafts "go to outside" to welcome the worldwide future.
