Project: Tea Space Design in the China Pavilion of 2020 Dubai Expo

The collaborative agreement of a large-scale project “China Pavilion of 2020 Dubai Expo - Future Living Space” was signed by BNU School of Future Design, Future Design Center and 2020 Dubai Expo China Pavilion Global Promotion Committee of Chinese Tea Culture (Tea Industry). The School undertook the design of the future living space in the China Pavilion of 2020 Dubai Expo.

Themed on “A Leaf of One Thousand Years”, this project adopts a piece of tea leaf to show the world the oriental worldview - “To see the world in a wild flower, and a bodhi in a piece of leaf”. By using contemporary design techniques, a Chinese tea room is well presented with artistic conception in the future life space of 2020 Dubai Expo China Pavilion. The body part of this tea room is in an outdoor open space connected to a sky corridor, creating the natural atmosphere of a garden tea room.

A tea table with LED display is set in the future life space with dynamic new media images displayed, so that tasters can better interact with the tea master and the tea set. Three tea masters provide tea service for three tasters in the tea space and spread traditional Chinese culture.

A real-size Tea Space of the 2020 Dubai Expo China Pavilion will be completed at BNU Zhuhai for the refinement of the design at the Dubai Expo and be open to the public who cannot travel to Expo Dubai. In the future, this space will be continuously open to the students and faculty of Future Design School at BNU Zhuhai for educational purpose.
