Research Area: Design Theory (Design History and Theoretical Research)

Xu Ping is the former Deputy Dean, professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). He also worked as the Deputy Director of CAFA Art Research Center for Olympic Games, Head of the Institute of Design Culture and Policy Studies at CAFA, Vice Director of Industrial Design Council of the China Artists Association, Executive Director of the China Industrial Design Association (CIDA), Vice Chairman of Folk Art Committee of Chinese Arts and Crafts Institute. Ping served as a member of the review board in the Arts & Design Exhibition of the 9th and 10th National Exhibition of Fine Arts as well as the 5th Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts. He was also a senior visiting scholar at the Engineering Department of Chiba University.

1984-1987 M.A. degree at Department of Arts and Crafts, Nanjing University of the Arts.
1988-1991 Ph.D. at Department of Fine Arts, Nanjing University of the Arts.

In 2008, he received the "Work Honor" award from the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In 2008, he received the "Cultural Innovation Award" as one of the main members of the Olympic design team of the Central Academy of Fine Arts issued by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2010, he was commended as one of the "Top Ten" educators of China Industrial Design Association.
