On 4-5 December, Tim Yip, Distinguished Professor at the SFD, held a specialized lecture and a book launch at the Yuanbai Building Art Museum. Both events were chaired by Lecturer Liu An.
The special lecture, entitled “Multiverse – the Imagination in Costume Design”, showcased Professor Yip’s costume works spanning film, theatre, and his independent design practice. Through this diverse body of work, he offered an in-depth exploration of the essence of clothing and its spiritual dimensions. By presenting costume as a medium connecting human beings with the spiritual world, Professor Yip transcended traditional boundaries of apparel design. Employing a rich visual language and a design-oriented mindset, he demonstrated how costume transcends material form to express individual spiritual aspirations and self-awareness, highlighting the multifaceted potential and future directions of costume design.
At the book launch, Professor Yip engaged in an in-depth dialogue with Dean Gao Peng, discussing the contents of his newly released works, Autobiography by Tim Yip by Tim Yip and Aesthetics of Tim Yip. They shared insights into the life experiences, creative journey, and aesthetic concepts covered in these books and explored visions for the future world and the development of young people.
Dean Gao Peng concluded the vent by emphasizing the role of designers as creators and conveyors of culture, bearing the responsibility of integrating individual care, technological innovation, and social responsibility. He further noted that future design education should inspire students to draw inspiration from their cultural roots, shaping a forward-looking and humanistic future world through the synergy of art and technology.
