On September 20, the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Industrial Design Conference was held at the Yantai International Convention and Exhibition Center. During the ceremony, the 2024 China Top 100 Design Industry Awards were announced, which included categories such as Top 10 Design Agencies, Top 10 Innovation Brands, Top 10 Innovation Platforms, Top 10 Design Educators, and Top 10 Designers. Additionally, the establishment of the Intelligent Design Professional Committee of the China Industrial Design Association was also announced.

This year's "Top 10 Design Educators" list highlights leading pioneers and drivers of development who have made significant contributions in design talent cultivation, academic research, industry-academia collaboration, and advancing design education concepts, methods, and practices.
Professor Gao Peng’s recognition as a “Top 10 Design Educator” is a testament to his contributions as a design educator and highlights the significant achievements of FDC in talent development, academic research, and industry-academia innovation collaboration.
As Dean of SFD and a PhD supervisor, Professor Gao has led the college in establishing a comprehensive talent development system for undergraduates, master’s, and doctoral students over the past three years. The college has formed partnerships with over ten internationally renowned institutions, including the Royal College of Art, POLI.design at Politecnico di Milano, California College of the Arts, University for the Creative Arts in the UK, and RMIT University. Additionally, SFD has signed cooperation agreements with over twenty well-known companies and large institutions, such as Lenovo Group, Haier Group, Li-Ning Group, China Academy of Building Research, and Markor Home Furnishings, to jointly conduct teaching and research projects.
Professor Gao’s major publications include Research on Contemporary Art, Sichuan Fine Arts Publishing House, 2018; Museum Development in China, Rowman & Littlefield, 2019; and Research on the Operation and Construction of Private Art Museums in China, Sichuan Fine Arts Publishing House, 2020. He has also published numerous articles in core journals and authoritative media such as Fine Arts, Art Research, Art Review, People’s Daily, China Culture Daily, and China Fine Arts Journal.
In terms of national major projects, Professor Gao joined the Organizing Committee of the 29th Beijing Olympic Games in 2004, where he participated in several Olympic design projects and received multiple awards, including the title of "Outstanding Individual" of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was involved in the image design of the Best Urban Practices Area (Beijing Pavilion) at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and the logo and core graphic concept design for the 2010 World Design Congress (ICOGRADA) and Beijing Design Week. In 2010, he was recruited as a special talent to the University of the Arts London, where he participated in design work for the London Olympics and was later invited to serve as a judge for several design projects for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. In 2020, he led the design project for the multimedia tea space, "A Leaf of a Thousand Years," at the China Pavilion of the Dubai World Expo. From 2011 to 2019, Professor Gao served as the director of Today Art Museum, where his experience in operating art museums and cultural institutions was selected as a case study by the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University and later submitted as a case to Harvard Business School in 2019.
From 2013 to 2024, he has led four National Arts Fund projects and five Beijing Cultural Fund projects. He currently serves as a peer review expert for the National Social Science Fund, an evaluation and monitoring expert for the Ministry of Education’s Graduate Education Program, an expert reviewer for the Ministry of Education’s Talent Programs, a council member of the China Folk Arts Society and the Design Education Branch of the China Industrial Design Association. He was co-chair of the "Global Shapers" at the 2015 World Economic Forum and received the title of “Art Ambassador” that year. He also won the “Beijing May Fourth Medal” in 2015 and was selected as one of the “Four Talent Pools” of Beijing’s publicity and cultural system in 2017. In 2023, he received the Beijing Normal University "Peng Nian Outstanding Teacher Award" and other honours.
The World Industrial Design Conference, organized by the China Industrial Design Association in collaboration with design organizations, institutions, companies, and universities from more than 60 countries and regions, is an international platform for the development of the global design industry. It aims to promote the integration of design innovation with economic and social development globally, fostering design exchanges and cooperation between nations and regions.
