The exploration and practice of the 2025 PBL Grand Challenge by SFD provide a vivid embodiment of the Ministry of Education’s “Aesthetic Education Infusion Initiative” as it progresses from policy to implementation. The project unfolds through the three dimensions of people, environment and objects, raising aesthetic education from a curricular concept to nourishment for life.

02 Environment-Based Education Series Projects
The environment-based education projects of SFD serve universities as well as primary and secondary schools, across both urban and rural settings. They include campus cultural development, the construction of teaching scenarios, the design of functional areas and curriculum and educational design. 01 Forbidden City -themed Readers and Courses
Based on the learning characteristics of adolescents in basic education, SFD has developed a series of Forbidden City –themed courses centred on aesthetic education and science popularisation, and has published aesthetic education teaching materials and children’s readers through Forbidden City Publishing House.

02 CMG 2025 Year of the Snake Spring Festival Gala Mascot Design and Cultural and Creative Product Design
SFD designed “Sishengsheng,” the mascot for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala celebrating the Year of the Snake. As an indispensable “cultural feast” for Chinese communities worldwide, the Gala uses this lively ambassador to draw emotionally closer to audiences, to convey profound cultural meaning, and to send auspicious wishes for the Snake Year.

03 Cultural and Creative Design of the SFD Cat
The “Dream Catcher SFD Cats” commemorative cultural and creative project is inspired by three well-known stray cats on campus-Ruyi, Xiaodeng, and Xiaohaimian. Integrating true campus stories into the design, the project develops IP characters and cultural products that connect the emotional memories of teachers and students, thereby contributing to the dissemination of SFD’s culture.

04 Research on Psychological Assessment Tools for Primary and Secondary Education in Future-Oriented Education
Focusing on the theme “Research on Psychological Assessment Tools for Primary and Secondary School Students in Future-Oriented Education,” SFD explores innovative pathways for future mental health assessment through interdisciplinary integration of design and technology, using design imbued with warmth to protect the inner world of young people.

05 Hengqin Guangdong–Macao Deep Cooperation Zone
Tourism Development and Cultural -Creative Street Planning for Hongqi Village
SFD applies design research and classroom knowledge to real social contexts and needs. It conducts studies on the natural and cultural resources of Hongqi Village, producing a diverse range of outcomes including visual identity, project naming, wayfinding systems, public art, outdoor furniture, aesthetic creations, animated story works and cultural and creative products, thereby demonstrating the entire process of design from conception to implementation.

06 Digital Experience Design for the Museum of Aesthetic-Education Teaching Materials
Using digital technology to revitalise artefacts from teaching materials, SFD analyses contextual needs and creates accessible and experiential interactive spaces for aesthetic education. The project outputs include a design report on the digital experience of the Aesthetic Education Textbook Museum, a database of digital content and an interactive design scheme based on spatial tours across all educational stages.

07 Digital Collection of Traditional Handicraft Resources and Digital Cultural-Creative Design Based on the intangible cultural heritage technique of Fengxiang dyeing of the Rao ethnic group in Guizhou Province
SFD focuses on the digital preservation and innovative transformation of traditional craftsmanship. Through systematic research, database construction and cultural and creative development, the project aims to promote the diverse and sustainable transmission of intangible cultural heritage.

Oriental Philosophical Lifestyles - The “ Gentleman as Jade” Furniture Serie Design
Song-dynasty aesthetics form an important part of traditional Chinese aesthetics. The “Gentleman as Jade” furniture design project aims to incorporate the Song-dynasty ideals of simplicity, elegance and naturalness into contemporary interior design, allowing household furniture to embody Eastern emotional expression and contributing to the transmission of cultural heritage.

Whispering Scents|Multi-sensory Narrative Jewellery Brand Design
The Whispering Scents project combines sustainable biomaterials with multi-sensory experience, giving forgotten plants and materials new poetic value and vitality, and offering a new interpretation of Eastern aesthetics in everyday life.

Development of the LEGO Education Curriculum Series
LEGO Education provides a series of educational products and services for different age groups, covering multiple disciplines including science, technology, mathematics, design and sociology. The LEGO Education curriculum series is designed according to age-specific characteristics and is suitable both for classroom teaching and for use in extracurricular activities and skills development.
Development of AI Literacy Courses for Basic Education
The project develops a scientific and systematic AI literacy curriculum for basic education, aiming to cultivate students’ abilities in “Artificial Intelligence Plus”.

Design and Artistic Creationof Medical Science Popularisation Exhibits
Based on the installation design of the Brain Science Building of Fudan University, the project explores scientific research content, modes of thinking, working practices, linguistic characteristics and communication habits through exchanges across medicine, architecture, museology and sociology. Guided by artistic scholarship, the project creates relevant scientific-art installations for this specific setting, introducing a futurist perspective into evolving scientific research and achieving in-depth integration of science and art.

Virtual Reality and Immersive Image Media Project
The project uses virtual terminal devices and digital twin technology to construct highly realistic models that allow audiences to experience non-contact immersion. Photogrammetry techniques and HTC Vive software are used to integrate scene images into immersive virtual spaces, enabling audiences to interact with exhibited objects.

The School is exploring the construction of a future model in which design empowers aesthetic education with Chinese characteristics.
