Beijing, China – Professor Gao Peng, Dean of the School of Future Design at Beijing Normal University, was recently a featured guest on the newly launched online program "Same Aesthetics Education Class" (同上一堂美育课) by the Renmin Daily (People's Daily).
In this special episode titled "The Beauty of Chinese Construction," Dean Gao joined Mr. Shan Jixiang, Director of the Academic Committee of the Palace Museum (Forbidden City), and Professor Zheng Qinyan from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Together, they shared insights into the timeless beauty of the Forbidden City and discussed the wisdom embedded in traditional Chinese architecture and design.
The program aims to promote the spirit of Chinese aesthetics and strengthen cultural confidence among young people. It is part of the "People's Aesthetics" project by the Renmin Daily, designed to create an immersive and high-quality aesthetic education experience for students.
This particular episode, produced to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Palace Museum, explores the rich stories behind ancient Chinese construction. Viewers are introduced to the delicate structures of dougong (interlocking wooden brackets), the elegant curves of flying eaves, and the cultural meanings found in every detail, reflecting the ancient philosophy of "harmony between man and nature."
