In 2024, the SFD, in conjunction with the Youth League Committee of Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus, initiated the "Interdisciplinary STEAM Rural Education Public Welfare Practice Project." This endeavor, supported by the ByteDance Foundation, Beijing Normal University Education Foundation, and Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus Education Development Foundation, led a team of teachers and students to experiment with and implement STEAM education in Yonghe Xian, Shanxi Province.
The project team consisted of three faculty members, thirteen master's students, and nineteen trainees from the "Targeted Teacher Training Plan". Focused on themes of rural revitalization, design thinking, local culture, and children's mental health education, the team engaged in field surveys, on-site research, interviews, and presentations. They explored three main research directions: interdisciplinary STEAM curriculum design and implementation in rural education, cultural tourism and intangible cultural heritage in rural revitalization, and designing educational spaces in model county schools. This comprehensive approach helped them gain a deep understanding of Yonghe xian’slocal culture, educational status, and revitalization needs, laying a solid foundation for future practical teaching.
