Project: Development of a Forbidden City Colour Aesthetic Education Course for School-Age Children

The “I Am a Screen Wall (Yingbi) Heritage Successor” Forbidden City–themed aesthetic education course is developed on the basis of the outcomes of two PBL projects at SFD - “Research on the Forbidden City Colour System” and “Development of a Forbidden City Children’s Reader”. Drawing on the teaching experience of the “I Am a Caisson Ceiling (Zaojing) Guardian” Forbidden City–themed aesthetic education course, it has been carefully developed by the team’s staff and students specifically for school-age children aged 6–12. At present, the course has been implemented at the Jinfeng Campus of Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Experimental School.

Centred on the C-STEAM educational concept, the course organically integrates Culture, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, balancing knowledge and enjoyment. Through interdisciplinary inquiry and project-based learning, students can enhance their comprehensive abilities through hands-on practice, while also experiencing the artistic beauty of the Forbidden City, thereby stimulating their love for - and awareness of the inheritance of - China’s fine traditional culture.
