ART AND DESIGN STUDIES

Introduction

In the face of the current rapid development of information technology and fast transformation of production and lifestyle, this program promotes the integration of design in different fields of education through the students'active participation in interdisciplinary design education practices to meet the urgent need for artistic and cultural creative knowledge in different fields. It focuses on the integration of related disciplines and design applications, forming a model of knowledge production with rich artistic connotations. The degree program aims to create new foundational connections between the fields of design and education, creating a model of future design education that encompasses new pathways and experiences.

The program focuses on building students' design awareness and equips them with design thinking, visual narrative and translation skills. Students will explore future-oriented trends in design education, be able to combine design perceptions and innovative ideas with practical needs in the field of education, strengthen potential for design innovation in information-based education, and will thus become future-oriented practitioners at the forefront of design education. Degree holders will be able to enter education and research institutions, museum and exhibition institutions (such as design schools, vocational training, public education, children's art training, museums, art galleries, research institutes, laboratories) and media and communication institutions in the field of art and design, and engage in design research, education, planning and management, so they can make a contribution to the national economic development and the overall literacy of citizens.

Study Content

From the aspect of the history of conceptual evolution, students will take foundation courses in art and design, interdisciplinary general studies, and design education, as well as courses in professional design; they will strengthen their theoretical knowledge and put theory into practice by setting up studios or project teams.

Through courses of basic design thinking and modelling methods, students can improve their abilities to understand design functions, guide design applications, promote design communication, as well as collect and analyze design information accordingly; they will be able to integrate the knowledge and theoretical methods of design, education, psychology and anthropology together with sociology, communication, management, museum studies and other disciplines based on the understanding of the design education trends in the world as well as in China. The program emphasizes the importance of seeing the world from the perspective of design, combining design as a fundamental quality of life and a way of thinking with one's own characteristics, and teaching design and design applications with different professional backgrounds and knowledge structures.
