DESIGN EDUCATION (FULL-TIME)

Introduction

Facing the changing demands of future design, design education aims to cultivate sustainable design talents, build up design education system and improve national aesthetic and humanistic literacy. This program combines the advantages of BNU’s leading disciplines and excellent faculty of professional arts academy, forms a sustainable and excellent talent cultivation environment in the interdisciplinary field, explores a new model of future design education system with industry-university-research practice. Focusing on the development of future design education, it also cultivates high-level innovative design educators with international vision, multi-disciplinary knowledge, professional practice and management skills, and provides a systematic interdisciplinary education practice for other institutions with the methods and experience to develop interdisciplinary education practices.

Cultivation Objectives

The design education program aims to develop innovative talent cultivation models through summarizing the concepts, technologies, methods and practical experience of future design and design education, and combining the comprehensive study of the changes in production, lifestyle and natural and human ecology. It will enable students understand and grasp the development concepts, trends and methods of modern design education, and cultivate high-level innovative talents in design education with international vision, multi-disciplinary knowledge, professional practice and management skills.

Full-time graduate students will focus on the theories of contemporary art and design, as well as the integration of disciplinary knowledge in related fields. The program will improve students’ independent thinking and profession practical skills, develop solid and inspiring thinking patterns, establish systematic design education concepts and methods, and promote the integration of future design education experiences with design development trends. It will introduce new technologies, new communication methods and design concepts into future social life through education, so that the overall design literacy can be improved with the efforts of future education educators.

Students graduated in this program will be able to work in education-research institutions, museum-exhibition institutions, and media-communication institutions (art and design colleges, educational institutions, museums, art galleries, research centers and labs) and become high-level professional talents with strong professional practice and innovative abilities in design education research, teaching, planning and management.

Study Content

Students will learn the theories, methodologies and historical background of design education and recognize the development trends of domestic and international design education. With the basic knowledge of design education, students can acquire the professional approach to study education, such as pedagogy and curriculum theory, and improve their literacy for humanities and professional adaptability by completing the courses in related fields such as psychology, anthropology and sociology, communication, language and literature, management, museum studies, etc.

Full-time: in-term lectures.

Duration of studies 

Full-time: three years.

PBL and Internship

During their studies, students will join the “Future Education Laboratory” and have the opportunities to work in universities, K-12 educational institutions, domestic and international education research centers, art museums and galleries and design education institutions.

Scholarships

Students with excellent academic performance will receive scholarships sponsored by the nation, the university and enterprises.

1+1 and 2+0 joint international programs as well as short-term international exchange programs are about to offer to the students.
