Outstanding Scholars gathered in FDC Young Scholars Sub-forum for design and education achievement exchange

On December 7, the 2020 Beijing Normal University Young Scholars Forum was held in a combination of online and offline ways with over 700 young scholars from Oxford University, Cambridge University, Yale University, Stanford University, MIT, Tsinghua University, Peking University together with other famous domestic and overseas universities attended in the main forum. From December 8 to 11, nearly 500 young scholars were invited by departments and faculties of Beijing and Zhuhai campuses for the academic exchange activities of the online sub-forums.

On December 9, the Future Design Center sub-forum of 2020 BNU Young Scholars Forum was held.

At the main forum, President Dong Qi, Beijing Normal University delivered an opening speech online, and then Chen Li, Vice President of Beijing Normal University and Wang Shoujun, Vice President of Beijing Normal University and Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhuhai Campus, respectively gave theme reports.

President Dong expressed a warm welcome to all international scholars on behalf of the university and then pointed out that Beijing Normal University is accelerating the construction of a comprehensive, research-oriented, world class university with Chinese characteristics leading in teacher education, which provides opportunities for young talents to make great achievements here. He also emphasized that the university attaches great importance to talent acquisition and insists on taking multiple measures to attract and retain talents. In the future, BNU will provide more support for young teachers of different fields and levels, and make efforts to gather and cultivate a group of aspiring young people with ideal beliefs, moral sentiments, solid knowledge and benevolent hearts.


Speech by President Dong Qi of Beijing Normal University

Wang Shoujun introduced the construction and plan of Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus. He stressed that the Zhuhai campus is to be built into a southern campus of the same level as the Beijing campus based on the principle of "High standard, New mechanism and Internationalization". The campus insists on taking talents as the first resource for sustainable development, and is committed to using first-class culture and environment to attract and nurture first-class talents as well as using first-class platform and resources to produce first-class results with the aim of developing a world-class teaching team.


Report by Wang Shoujun, Vice President of Beijing Normal University and Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhuhai Campus, respectively gave theme reports.

Liu Zhen, Director of Personnel Office, and Meng Chaoying, Director of Human Resources of Zhuhai Campus, introduced the personnel policies of Beijing Campus and Zhuhai Campus, including the personnel system of attracting and nurturing young talents and introduction procedures.

The BNU Young Scholars Forum is one of the important initiatives of the university to strengthen the introduction of young talents, aiming to gather a group of outstanding young talents who have high academic achievements and potential for innovation and development.

2020 BNU Young Scholars Forum FDC Sub-forum

The FDC sub-forum held on Dec. 9 invited 28 outstanding young scholars from home and abroad to share their latest achievements on the international frontier research and education issues in the field of design.

In the sub-forum, Gao Peng, Director of Future Design Center, gave a detailed introduction on the mission and vision, talent cultivation, discipline framework of FDC. He expressed his expectation to recruit like-minded scholars to practice the educational philosophy on future design together, and to cultivate talents with innovative design thinking and the courage to change the future. Yu Xiaoyu from the FDC also answered questions on the policies of talent introduction. In addition, the Center also invited Jiang Yecheng, an architect studied in France to give an academic presentation on the concept and vision of future design.

In the afternoon of December 13, 10 scholars were invited to visit the Future Design Center. They gave academic presentations on their research and introduced their strengths for the future development of the Center.



In the morning of January 4, seven scholars attended the FDC sub-forum were invited to conduct online interviews during the academic committee meeting. FDC experts had an in-depth communication regarding their backgrounds and academic achievement with the interviewees.

This forum aims to provide an effective communication platform for young scholars and lay a good foundation for outstanding talent introduction to the Future Design Center.
