2022 BNU School of Future Design Summer Camp for National Outstanding Students Was Successfully Held

In order to promote academic exchanges among outstanding students from national universities, enhance their knowledge and understanding of the disciplines, and encourage outstanding students to further their studies in the School of Future Design, the School successfully held the 2022 National Summer Camp for Outstanding Students from July 14 to 15.

The summer camp was held online and received over 300 applications from Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Communication University of China, Nankai University, Harbin Institute of Technology and other universities, and finally selected 36 participants. After two days of exchange and interaction, a total of 20 participants were evaluated as excellent campers.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Gao Peng, Dean of the School of Future Design expressed his welcome to the campers and briefly introduced the School. "The School of Future Design gathers a group of distinguished scholars and industry experts who represent the level of this discipline and lead the future direction of design and art education. We hope to cultivate leading design talents with innovative thinking in design and the courage to face the future", said Prof. Gao Peng. Faculty representatives Prof. Gong Jiawei, Dr. Christoph Stahl and Dr. Wang Xingyue delivered academic lectures on the three research directions of the School.

In order to fully examine the academic level of campers, the camp set up a design snapshot session, allowing the campers to discuss in random groups based on the theme "DISTANCE", and to conduct an "elevator speech", briefly reporting the group's work plan. Each group proposed their ideas and completed the final presentations in the forms of videos, performances, installations, innovative services and curriculum development regarding real-life problems including "Sex Education Workshop for Children", "Smart Clothing for the Elderly", "Emotional Connection Device between Astronaut and Family" and "Neighborhood Distance Future Community Chain". At the end of the camp, all campers had an interview session, sharing their feelings about the camp, their understanding of the School and their plans for future studies.

The two-day camp came to a successful end with discussions and presentations from the campers. The camp not only enhanced the communication and interaction of college students from national outstanding universities and the School of Future Design but also provided the opportunity for the campers to learn about Beijing Normal University. At the same time, it provided the participants with the opportunity to communicate with students from different disciplines and professional backgrounds.
